BIG NEWS! CALM HELPLINE GOES 7 DAYS A WEEK

News   •   Nov 01, 2012 00:00 GMT

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) will be expanding its helpline to seven evenings a week from Nov 1st, 2012.

An unprecedented increase in public donations and fundraising this year has enabled us to extend our CALM helpline service from four evenings a week to seven.  The service offers men confidential, anonymous and free* support, information and signposting.

Suicide is the single biggest killer of young men in the UK, and accounts for 75% of all suicides.

Awareness of CALM as a mental health charity has increased by 7% since its launch in London last November, according to research undertaken by YouGov in Sept 2012, which is extremely encouraging.  This extension of the service will allow us to provide support to hundreds of more men.  Without public support, this expansion would not have been possible, with most donations coming from friends and families who have experienced the effects of suicide first hand, so a HUGE thank you to all of our supporters.  Without you this would not have been possible.

“This is bitter-sweet news – great for the thousands of men who’ll use the line over the next months and years, but sad that this is funded on the back of so many suicides” said Jane Powell, Chief Exec of CALM
