Signing up 3 of the hottest musical talents is no mean feat, plus extending services in these austere times but that’s exactly what we’re announcing this week!

Our innovative campaign, launched on Merseyside in 2000, is celebrating it’s new 7 day a week helpline service AND a new text support service with an announcement that we’ve secured the hotly tipped and 2012 MOBO Unsung AWARD winner Esco Williams, Stephen Langstaff (rapidly becoming one of the UK’s most prolific singer/songwriters) and the prolific Liverpool-based DJ, record company boss and producer Anton Powers.

Merseyside CALMzone co-coordinator Simon Howes comments, “CALM on Merseyside was launched in the home of super club Cream and has grown its profile amongst the many music events on Merseyside.  It was only right that we took the next step to recruit ambassadors from the incredible talented local music scene, so we are absolutely thrilled to secure Esco, Stephen and Anton.”

The three vastly different artists will each support CALM’s work through online activity and live shows as well as suggesting ideas and connections that could help us develop our work.

Esco explains, “I support CALM because I know first hand, the importance of speaking about your problems. Bottling everything up can become self-destructive and sometimes as men it can get socially awkward. CALM offers a way to break the silence, inclusive of everyone.”

Stephen adds, “I think CALM do a great job. There’s real evidence that what they do makes a difference to young men’s lives. The everyday pressures and self-esteem problems that a lot of men struggle to deal with in silence is often overlooked. CALM try to intervene and it’s a pleasure to help raise awareness for them in whatever way I can.”

Anton sums up, “”I support CALM because they’re about expressing yourself and opening up.  Whether you’re a clubber, DJ or simply a music lover, you’ll know there’s nothing like forgetting everything that’s in your head and getting lost in the music.  Being a bloke, it can be hard to open up and talk but whatever’s making your life difficult, CALM can help you sort it, meaning you can get back to enjoying your life!”

It’s been a busy year, with the launch of a CALMzone in London and an increase in core staff to accommodate the massive swelling of support we’ve experienced recently.

“We’ve seen an increase in the number of new callers who are finding life very tough at the moment.” says Simon, “It’s good news that they’re calling us but the lack of jobs and cost of education is affecting many people’s lives, so it’s essential we keep promoting ourselves to the men of Merseyside in new ways.  Having our helpline open every evening and a new text support service so that people can contact us via SMS is fantastic news for every man in the region.”

If you’re in Merseyside here’s the details you need to know:
