The thinking behind the project
In November we announced we’d secured the hotly tipped and 2012 MOBO Unsung AWARD winner Esco Williams, Stephen Langstaff – rapidly becoming one of the UK’s most prolific singer/songwriters – and the legendary Liverpool-based DJ, record company boss and producer Anton Powers as music ambassadors.
Valentines seemed the ideal opportunity to bring this powerhouse of musical talent together and so we teamed up with Bido Lito! Magazine and asked the three artists to create a new piece of music exploring relationships from a male perspective. Esco Williams and Steven Langstaff spent a day in the legendary Motor Museum studios (the studio of choice for Arctic Monkeys, Ben Howard and Tribes) with producer Al Groves to record the main body of the song. Anton Powers then lent his remix expertise to the final cut of the track.
Simon Howes, CALM’s Merseyside co-ordinator explains, “There is a lot of research to show many men often don’t have the support network that women do and so have less options to utilise when the are feeling alone or come out of a relationship. Add that to the fact that men feel the pressure to appear to be unaffected by these experiences, this means a lot of guys are having to bottle up their emotions which can cause problems. This project is all about expressing yourself, being there for a mate and not letting relationship problems get you down.”
